Americans traces the immigration experiences
of three Latin American families from their perspective countries to
their generational expansion in the United States. Each section of this
project replicates the living rooms of these families. Interviews of
their life histories play on the three television sets; personal
possessions and family photographs adorn the walls. Viewers are
welcomed as guests into each residential space, opening an exchange
between possible US natives and those who have often been denied the
title of "host" in a foreign country. Thus, boundaries become fluid and
we are able to see ourselves within the other.
